How to combat emulsions in oil production?
To combat emulsions and reverse-emulsions, oil well operatos use the emulsion brekers (demulsifiers) and reverse-emulsions (water clarifier). The demulsifiers are usually injected into the oil production line and will break the emulsions along the way. The production liquid will then flow into a separating vessel that divide the incoming liquid into oil-dominant phase and water dominant phase. The oil-dominant phase will then flow into a vessel called electric dehydrator. Basically a vessel that has electrified diodes that will electrify water molecules and force them to combine together. Their combined weight will then force them to drop to lower part of the vessel and be separated from the oil phase. The water phase coming out from this vessel and separator vessel will be combined and flow into a vessel called gas-floatation vessel. The oil phase will then be put into oil storage tank. In the gas floatation unit, water phase which still has oil concentration above environmental limit will be injected with reverse-emulsion breakers (water clarifier). It will also be agitated while air is blown into it. The air will create bubbles that will help float oil separated from water. Oil molecules will then combine and form froths. These froths will then overflowed into wing chambers of the gas floatation unit and flow into oil storage. The water will then be dumped into open water system. Without these system of combating emulsions, oil production rate will be at abyssmal level and oil price will elevate to levels we won't be comfortable with. |
