Mobile Markets
You have known about the barbaric nature of public transportation services in Jakarta, you have even seen the videos I give you in Jakarta Bus Cruise, but there is something more about the crazy buses. It is the fact that they are sometimes act as mobile markets. Yes, mobile markets, where peddlers of all kind sells things to the passangers. There are newspaper boys selling morning and evening papers. There are breadsellers selling flavored breads in small tinbox (12" x 6" x 3". There are accessories peddlers selling assorted things (super glues, tissues, nail cutters, thumbnails, scissors) priced at a meager flat price of Rp 1000.00 (or US$ 0.1). There are sometimes even people selling electric razors and books. And this mobile markets are not limited to buses. Much wider and much varied markets can be seen on Jakarta's inner-city railtransports. There are even actually people who sells fertizilers, plants, clothes, pets, and so on. These peddlers plow through passangers who are already stuffed like sardines. Some of passangers can only step a foot into the the train and let majority of their bodies outside the train while gripped any parts of the train they can grapple. Can you imagine such mobile markets? If not, why don't you come to Jakarta and have a taste of them yourself :) |
