The Party Seasons Since the beginning of Indonesia's return to true multiparties election in 2004, there has been a disturbing trend: the sudden proliferations of political parties. And of course, like everything else political here in Indonesia, the proliferations itself has no other motives but...money. Political parties get subsidies and donations when they are chosen to be able to compete in general elections. For some people and their cronies, that means instant cash! They just gather their lackeys and pay people little money to make them submit their IDs and signatures to make the parties look legitimately supported by enough people. Then they simply register with minimal requirements to the registration board. Afterward, if they are registered and eligible to compete, they'll get grant funds. And they will share the grant funds among themselves and not doing anything about the general elections. Crappy eh? Just to add some more crazy facts: they are over 70 political parties deemed eligible!
