The Prostituting Tradition

This might sounds crazy, but believe me it does exist.

The girls on those rural areas will be grown believing that by serving people of the cities they will serve the benefits of their people by sending them money and othe form of wealths. When they are matured enough, there will be inaugural ceremony of womanhood. People will cheer their coming of age, and will pray so that they will attract many men and therefore many money. The girls will then come to big cities around Northern Java, especially Jakarta and Cirebon. They will join their seniors, some will even replace their aging seniors. Together they form a pack of professional women whose jobs are nothing but stay in horizontal position and accept what is coming.

Adultery is not sin for them, but rather a source of living.

Who they serve they don't matter. Some of the prettiest ones will serve as high class prostitute, trained to dance and sing and serve the needs of their patrons. Some of them will be "elevated" and act as illegal mistresses and secondary wives to the rich people, who are mostly businessmen, high-level government officers, and local legislative representatives.

Once they are aged, some of them will continue their professions, and some will decide to go home and get married. There are many men who are willing to accept these "used women" as their wives since these ex-prostitutes often have more wealths than other people.

As crazy as it might sounds, this tradition is being upheld tightly.

This tradition can be traced to the tradition of supplying concubines to middle ages kings of java kingdoms and the european occupants. On those times, selling of women is often legalized by kings and can be given as tributes to each others as signs of good wills.

Looking at this, it seems human's civilization has not gone far, eh?
