What is Gas Flare System?
Gas flare system is a system designed to dump unwanted gas by simply introducing it to a pilot flame so that it will ignite and burn. The life of the flame is limited by the gas dumped to the flare stack. If the gas is not flowing there, then the flame is off. This system is used mainly to simply dump gas flow that is a result of separation process. The separation process separates liquid phase and gas phase. If the gas phase doesn't have a container as a end of its line, then a gas flare system is the easiest system to be dump the unwanted gas. The gas is flowed into a piping system that directs the flow to a isolated area that is free of any other structures in 30 feet radius. On the end of a line is a vertical structure that consists of a vertical pipe and its supporting piles. Parallel to the flaring line is a pilot flame system consists of a small tubing (0.5"-1") connected to a stored gas. The pilot flame will be ignited prior to the flowing of the gas into the flare stack by flowing to the stored gas into the end of the small tubing and with manual or automatic ignition system, a spark is thrown that will ignite the flare system. The gas flare system must be monitored all the time, in case the flame died out and needs to be re-ignited. If the flame died out for long period of time and if the gas is still flowed into the flare system, gas will overflowed out into the environment thus causing environmental or health hazard and risk huge-scale wild fire. |
